Our ice cream won’t leave you cold

“By striving for continuous innovation and offering tailor-made customer solutions, we have managed to maintain our position as Europe's second biggest private label ice cream producer. Customer focus, teamwork and thinking ahead are the keywords that drive the entire YSCO team."

Bert Van Nieuwenborgh, Managing Director Ysco

Ysco is a Milcobel subsidiary that manufactures private label ice cream for some of the biggest European supermarket chains. We are, in fact, the European market leaders in that domain. Quality and service will always remain our prime motivations for driving and building the ultimate customer experience. By focusing on innovation, sustainability and automation, we can claim a solid position in the European ice cream market.

Founded in 1949, Ysco expanded explosively in the 90’s. In the meantime, two state-of-the-art factories manufacture no less than 18 million litres of ice cream per year. Langemark, in Flanders, accounts for 120 million litres of that volume, making it the largest ice cream factory of the Benelux by far. The subsidiary in Argentan, in Normandy, France, makes more than 60 million litres of ice cream every year. In the high season, it employs about 300 staff. Put together, the two sites number no fewer than 28 production lines. At Ysco, quality, sustainability, innovation, automation and service come first.

Scooped ice cream

Classic scooped ice cream represents about a third of the total volume. Ysco is able to deliver standard containers filled with anything from 700ml to 5 litres of ice cream, but it’s the deluxe ice cream segment in particular that has seen tremendous growth over the past decade.

Ice cream mixes can be finished with or without sauce, toppings and premium decorations. There’s plenty of packaging choice, too; standard containers, premium containers, transparent or opaque, and all in a wide range of shapes. The lids offer quite a bit of variety, as well. One option is putting a raised lid onto the container, to really highlight the filling.

Packaging types and sizes

  • 700ml transparent container (with raised lid)
  • 750ml transparent container
  • 900ml transparent container
  • 900ml premium transparent container (with raised lid)

Producing over 450 million cones a year, Ysco has become the undisputed market leader in this product group. The machine park features 6 cone lines, with the biggest one capable of delivering no fewer than 36,000 units per hour. The cones are packaged automatically. The boxes are shrink wrapped or packaged in cardboard boxes. We offer a range of premium versions in addition to the classic cones.

Ysco’s 'Jumbo sticks' product group is currently experiencing explosive growth. The jumbo is a delicious ice cream popsicle on a stick, dipped into a bath of mouth-watering Belgian chocolate. In addition to the classic jumbos we also manufacture mini and premium jumbos with added sprinklings or sauce worked into the ice cream. Or how about a double coating? The jumbo is coated in a layer of chocolate with a second thick coat of sauce underneath. A new line was added to the existing ones in 2019, with a capacity of 1 million units per day, the biggest line in the world.

Ice cream cakes

Any occasion can be cause for celebration with a delicious ice cream cake.  For the most part, Ysco produces layered chocolate ice cream cakes, carefully building them up layer by layer, before slicing and packaging them. We can also swap out some chocolate layers for layers of biscuit, caramel or fruit sauce. Delicious! There are shapes and sizes to cater to any customer’s needs.

Ysco produces a great range of 80 ml and 100 ml cups and 140 ml parfait cups in a wide array of flavours. It’s perfectly possible to put 2 different types of ice cream mix into the cups, as well. There’s something for everyone!

The classic choco sticks consist of an ice cream base coated with fantasy chocolate. Nuts and sprinkles can be added to the coating for that finishing touch. We use the same machines to produce our popular Space Shuttle popsicles (the rocket popsicle we all know) and various flavours of ice lollies and splits.

Packaging types and sizes

  • 8 x 55/60/70 ml
  • 10 x 60 ml
  • 12 x 50 ml
  • 16 x 60 ml
  • 20 x 60 ml
