Ysco is an independent subsidiary of Milcobel cvba. It was founded in 1949 and went through a period of rapid expansion in the nineties. At present, two ultra-modern factories produce over 180 million litres of ice cream annually, which is destined for the largest European supermarket chains and their home brands.
The facility in Langemark (Flanders) is responsible for 120 million litres, which makes it by far the largest ice cream factory in the Benelux region. The production site is 6 hectares in size and provides work to over 650 people during peak season.
The facility in Argentan (Normandy, France) was acquired by Ysco in 2001. It produces more than 60 million litres of ice cream annually, providing work to around 300 people in peak season. The two facilities have a combined total of 28 production lines.
Quality, sustainability, innovation, automation and service are key at Ysco.
Scooping Ice Cream
The classic scooping ice cream represents approximately one third of the total volume. Ysco can produce different standard tubs ranging from 700 ml to 5 litres. However, the segment of premium ice cream in particular has seen an enormous growth over the past decade.
Difference ice flavours can be topped off with a sauce and an extra topping and/or high-quality decoration. There are also multiple packaging options: standard tubs, premium tubs, both transparent or non-transparent and in a variety of different shapes. The ice cream tub lids also come in different variants, including one with a higher lid for improved visibility of the topping and decoration.
With an annual production of over 450 million ice cream cones, Ysco has grown to become the undisputed market leader in this product group. The machinery consists of six production lines for cones, the largest of which has a production capacity of no less than 36.000 cones per hour. The cones are automatically packed. The boxes are packed in shrink film or cardboard. Next to the classic cones, we also offer multiple premium variants.
Currently, Ysco’s most explosive growth is marked by its ‘Jumbo sticks’ product group. The Jumbo is a delightful ice cream on a stick, covered with delicious melted Belgian chocolate. In addition to the classic Jumbo sticks, we also produce mini and premium versions, with chunks, mix-ins or swirls of sauce. Or how about a double coating? In the latter case, the Jumbo sticks are layered with a double coating of both sauce and chocolate. In 2019, a new production line was built, with a capacity of over 1 million pieces a day – the largest such production line in the world.
Any occasion can be reason for celebration with a delicious ice cream cake, all year round! At Ysco we mainly produce ice cakes with chocolate layers. These cakes are assembled layer-by-layer and then cut and packaged. In addition to chocolate layers, we can also add layers of biscuit, caramel or fruit sauce to our cakes. Delicious! We can provide a range of different shapes and sizes, depending on the clients’ preferences.
Ysco produces a nice product range of ice cream cups, including 80 and 100 ml cups and 140 ml parfait cups with different flavours. We can also mix two different ice cream flavours in the cups. There is something to everyone’s taste!
The classic chocolate sticks consist of a core of ice cream with a chocolate fantasy coating. Nuts or other inclusions or mix-ins can be added to the coating. We use the same machines to produce the popular Space Shuttle (the famous rocket-shaped ice lolly) and different flavours of water ice and splits.
