Quality is our main priority at Milcobel. High-quality end products, services and processes are embedded in our objectives and mindset. This starts with our most important resource: Our Milk!
We collect fresh and pure milk from our dairy farm members, all of whom are IKM-certified (IKM stands for Integrale Kwaliteitszorg Melk or DQA, the official Dairy Quality Assurance Scheme)
Responsibilities of our dairy farmers
Every milk delivery is subject to quality standards set out by law. The official quality control is carried out by the accredited labs of the Melkcontrolecentrum Vlaanderen (the Flemish milk control center) in Lier, Flanders and the Comité du Lait (Milk Committee) in Battice, Wallonia.
Complete monitoring of the entire chain
At Milcobel, we strive for complete monitoring of our entire chain – from grass to finished product. To collect milk from all our dairy farmers within the legal time limit and in an optimal way, we use more than 80 milk collection lorries on a daily basis. They are fitted with a sampling device and an IT-based data system for measuring volumes in litres and registering supplier data. This identification is based on GPS monitoring for every dairy farm, which in turn guarantees full traceability at all times.
Our milk collectors are all trained and certified by the FASFC (the Federal Agency for the Safety of the Food Chain in Belgium) as qualified milk collectors.
Milk processing and production
We process all milk in our own state-of-the-art factories. We produce our own cheeses and this enables us to obtain our fresh and pure whey. We prepare and formulate our ingredients according to the latest scientific and technological research in the fields of nutritional, sensory and functional properties.
All Milcobel factories use the Milcobel QAS (Quality Assurance System) and the Milcobel ACS (Automated Control System), validated by the FASFC (Federal Agency for the Safety of the Food Chain) in Belgium. Our production sites are all GFSI-certified (IFS/BRC).
Our products meet the most stringent standards and their specifications are designed to satisfy the most demanding customers. Both in the B2B world (with DPI) and B2C environment (with CPS) our aim is for Milcobel to be synonym with quality. This does not only apply to our products, but also to our customer service.
IKM or DQA, the dairy quality assurance scheme
The IKM certificate (short for Integrale Kwaliteitszorg Melk or Dairy Quality Assurance) ensures good farming practice at the dairy farms. It establishes our dairy farmers’ commitment to society and is based on seven pillars or modules:
- Animal health
- Animal welfare
- Duty of notification
- Sustainability monitor
The IKM (or DQA) specified requirements for production contribute to safeguarding the production conditions and food safety. They contain all key requirements from the autocontrol guide for primary production of raw milk, next to a series of specific IKM requirements.
Het ACS-G-009 certificate guarantees good transport practices and traceability of raw milk. A HACCP guide with assessments of risks and their potential consequences is analysed in a risk assessment with related containment material. It is an autocontrol guide for collection and transport of raw milk and is based on five modules:
- Milk collection
- Milk receipt
- Cleaning station
- Checks on tank cleaning and equipment of collection and transport lorries.
